It is said that the 21st Century began on 9/11/2001, when an act of war
against our western civilization changed the world as we knew it, including the
economy.
Yesterday, the UK referendum decided that UK should leave EU. It seems
that economy was the core of the discussion and everybody seemed to forget what
the European Project is about and what did the founding fathers of the EEC
envisaged in 1957.
I very much fear that our world as we knew it is about to change again,
and not for better, and that a political act turns out as an implosion of
Europe and the beginning of endless poverty and wars.
Today I feel sad, frustrated and preoccupied. I strongly believe that Europe
is a safe harbour in the world and no, and I’m not afraid of a Devil we don’t
know but rather of a Devil we know too well - 1870, 1914, 1939, only to name
the last wars that started in Central Europe, not to mention Marine le Pen and
other infamous people.
(*) Der Spiegel, titled one of its last editions “Please don’t go”, a
1979 song by KC and the Sunshine Band. This title is part of the lyrics of a 1980
Fischer-Z’s song called “So long”. I wish it can still be reverted..
